The Insulator Ranch, Merritt, BC

Returning from our visit with our family in Washington, we took a different route through the mountains. We knew about the Insulator Ranch in Merritt, having met the owner some years ago at a meet of insulator collectors in Drumheller, Alberta. Bob decided to share his vast collection of telephone, telegraph and power insulators.

We were greeted warmly by Bob and his wife, and invited us to drive into the ranch, and he would meet us there. It was very interesting to have a personal guided tour, with very interesting information about the collection. He told us that he is also involved with the local school district, hosting Grade 3 classes, as a field trip to learn about something that is now almost non-exist. He gives each visiting student an insulator to take home. We told him that we had boxes of insulators at home, and the next time he is in our area, he was welcome to drop by and pick them up.

They invited us to return in August for their annual Insulator Show and Sale weekend, a great way to reconnect the collectors that we had met some years ago. We did have plans to spend a few days with friends in the Okanogan, so we dropped by for the Sunday Brunch and some wonderful chats.
